I was staying at Aunt Helen's and Uncle Ted's and Doug was coming over to pick up Ardelle. Ardis instructed me to be on my best behavior. As a matter of fact, we were upstairs in the girls' room when he arrived. I remember asking if I could at least look out the window at him. There he was standing tall and strong, Ted in a chair nearby, Ardelle primping for the last few seconds... Not certain but I think he was wearing a muscle shirt which accentuated his toned arms... and I yelled out the window, "He's better looking than Tarzan!" only to be immediately grabbed by Ardis and pulled back into the room... Well years later, at a family gathering, we were all sitting at the dining room table in the homestead, and someone prompted me to tell that story... Doug got red faced embarrassed but he laughed hard with me (as I often gave him cause to do) along with the rest of the family...
That's the Doug I will always remember.
