Eugene Wilson “Curley” Foxley, 94, of Platte, SD passed away Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Platte Health Center Avera. At Eugene’s request, no services will be held. Memorials in Curley’s honor may be directed to the charity of your choice.
Eugene Wilson Foxley was born on November 11, 1921 to Lloyd John and Alice Fern (Wilson) Foxley at their home in Carroll Township, Charles Mix County, SD. He graduated from Platte High School in 1940 and went on to earn his Teaching Certificate from Springfield State Normal School. In 1943 Eugene was united in marriage to Blanche Pinney in Butte, NE and began his lifelong career in farming.
Curley fed and raised Fat Cattle and was involved with threshing. He would often buy hogs at the sale barn only to turn around and resell them. Curley liked fixing engines and tinkering with everything. He enjoyed watching football. Eugene loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared in Eugene’s life: his wife of 73 years, Blanche Foxley of Platte, SD; two children: Judy (Jim) Ryan of Yankton, SD and Randy (Sharon) Foxley of Platte, SD; seven grandchildren: Jill (Greg) Kouri, Jay (Rebecca) Ryan, Jon (Jessica) Ryan, Jamie (Randy) Karels, Jodi (Mark) Payer, Joel (Jodene) Foxley and Steve (Jeana) Foxley; 16 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a sister, Pegge Pranger of Platte, SD; along with several nieces and nephews.
Curley was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Fern Foxley; a sister, Evelyn Ellis; and a brother, Wendell Foxley.
