Dennis Dwayne Iedema was born to Jerry and Corneila (DeJong) Iedema on September 6, 1946 in Geddes, SD. He attended grade school in a one room country school a half mile from his home in Darlington Township and graduated from Platte High School in 1966. He then joined the National Guard and went through basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, MO, going on to serve for 23 years. He spent most of his life in Platte, SD, except for four years milking on a dairy farm in Lucas, SD. He was a hard working man working in many areas around Platte until March of 1990 when he found his place working at Meyerink’s Farm Service.
On January 29, 1971 Dennis married Darlene Sterk in Platte at the First Reformed Church. They were blessed with three children: Tammy Marie, Travis Dwayne and Troy Daniel. Also Brian Scott, whom passed shortly after birth. They in return blessed him with five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Dennis loved hunting and fishing and would spend hours on the river enjoying the outdoors, even if the fish were not biting. He loved taking the grandchildren camping, fishing, boating, skiing and tubing, and also playing games like cards with family and friends. Going to the lawnmower races that his two sons, son-in-law and grandson raced in, was a must.
Dennis was a member of the First Reformed Church in Platte, enjoyed the challenge of finding a good bargain at rummage sales and spending time with family and friends that visited their home. His love for his family was evident, especially in the time and care he took to make a toy box for each grandchild. Dennis will always be remembered for his willingness to help anyone out.
Grateful for being a part of Dennis’ life: his wife of over 45 years, Darlene; daughter, Tammy (Jason) Einerwold; sons: Travis (Tia) and Troy (Ashley); grandchildren: Shelton (Sierra), Lauren, Sawyer, Kyrie and Chloe; great grandson, Brantley; five siblings: Hubert (Patsy VanZee), Carol (Pete) Wesseling, Norma Nordan, LeRoy (Linda Vlasman) and Gary (Michelle Rougemont); along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
Dennis was preceded in death by a son, Brian Scott; his parents; in-laws, Pete and Marie Sterk; and brother in-law, Jim Nordan.
