Alice Darlene Lucas, 82, of Corsica, SD, formerly of Academy, SD passed away Friday, April 14, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in Corsica. Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the United Church of Christ in Academy. A Committal Service will follow at LaRoche Cemetery, Academy. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Mount Funeral Home in Platte, SD with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service.

Alice Darlene (Fuchs) Lucas was born on January 18, 1935 to Fred, Jr. and Viola Mae (Johnson) Fuchs in Geddes, SD. She graduated from Geddes High School in 1953. On January 18, 1955 Alice was united in marriage to Everett Francis Lucas at the First United Methodist Church in Mitchell, SD. She took pride in being a farmwife and mother of 10.

Alice was a member of the Academy United Church of Christ, was an avid reader – with a collection of thousands of books and enjoyed playing board games and cards, no one could beat her at Yahtzee. She was a devoted Minnesota Twins Baseball fan and followed the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in baseball, football and basketball.

Grateful for having shared in Alice’s life: her 10 children: Susan (Bill) Cable of Winner, SD, Richard (Donna) Lucas, Donald (MaryAnn) Lucas, Anita Schoenfelder all of Platte, SD, Kathy (Don) Bogenhagen of Kimball, SD, Lorraine “Lori” (John) Cable of Geddes, SD, Patrick (Diana) Lucas of Mitchell, SD, Amy (Preston) Burma of Platte, SD, Brian (Amy) Lucas of Spearfish, SD and Bruce (Dawn) Lucas of Volga, SD; 27 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Carol (Larry) Walker of Benedict, NE; two brothers-in-law: Lauren (Norma) Lucas of Platte, SD and Leo (Janette) Lucas of Green Valley, AZ; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Anderson of Platte, SD; along with many nieces and nephews.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Lucas (Jan. 5, 2009); her parents, Fred, Jr. and Viola Fuchs; two sisters: Lillian Hall and Mary Weerheim; an infant brother; parents-in-law, Fred and Clara Lucas; three brothers-in-law: Harold Lucas, Leonard Lucas and Wayne Anderson; four sisters-in-law: Irene Lucas, Iola Lucas, Florence Hinders and Wilma Novak.

A memorial in Alice’s honor will be established.
