Mary Ellen Cox, 95, of Platte, SD passed away Friday, October 6, 2017 at the Platte Health Center Avera. Memorial Services are 9:30 A.M. Saturday, October 14, 2017 at the Olive Presbyterian Church in Platte. Inurnment was at the Platte City Cemetery. Mary Ellen (Heyder) Cox was born on July 16, 1922 to Art and Josephine (Miller) Heyder in Parker, SD. The family moved to Platte, SD the latter part of 1930 and made their home there. Mary Ellen attended Platte School, graduating from high school in the spring of 1940. After graduation she attended National Business Training in Sioux City, IA and after completion of the program in 1942, she moved to Pierre, SD to work in the office of the South Dakota Highway Department. She worked there until 1945 when she moved to Milwaukee, WI and was employed by Phillips Petroleum. In 1956 she moved to Reno, NV where she worked for the University of Nevada. She remained there until 1980 when failing eyesight forced her to retire.
In 1957 Mary Ellen married Archie Cox and they resided in Sparks, NV. He passed away in 1979. Mary Ellen moved back to Platte in 2001 to reside in the Twilight Vista Assisted Living facility. She was a member of Chapter AG of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, having joined in 1942 and attended Olive Presbyterian Church in Platte.

Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Jo Heyder; her sister, Patricia Sluiter; brother-in-law, Armand Sluiter; and Archie Cox.
