Alfred Bernhard Gabrielson, Jr., 97, of Platte, SD passed away Monday, October 30, 2017 at his home. Funeral Services are 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Calvary Baptist Church in Platte. A Committal Service will follow at Stavanger Cemetery, rural Platte. Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 7:00 P.M. Friday, November 3, 2017 at Mount Funeral Home in Platte with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service.
Alfred Bernhard Gabrielson, Jr. was born on April 8, 1920 to Alfred Bernhard, Sr. and Martha (Paulson) Gabrielson in BØmlo, Norway while Martha was in Norway visiting family. When Alfred was two years old, he and his mother, Martha and three of his siblings returned to the United States. He attended country elementary school, completed grades nine and ten at Torrey Lake Center and finished grades eleven and twelve at Kimball High School, graduating in 1938.
On November 6, 1943 Alfred was united in marriage to Ardythe Dybing. To this union two daughters were born: Sandra and Cheryl. Together they lived and worked on a farm in the Platte, SD area for over 63 years. Alfred enjoyed being outdoors around the farm and fishing. He loved spending time with family and their many trips to Wisconsin to visit Sandy and Kendal.
Alfred received Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at the age of 20 and was baptized later in life. He and Ardythe and the girls attended Stavanger Lutheran Church in the early years of their marriage. When this rural church closed, they attended Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church in Platte and then the Calvary Baptist Church in Platte.
Grateful for having shared in Alfred’s life: his two daughters: Sandy (Kendal) Ready and Cherry (Junior) Van Dusseldorp both of Platte, SD; eight grandchildren: Janelle Ready of Kathmandu, Nepal, Angela Ready of Lake Odessa, MI, Ryan (Kathleen) Ready of Moscow, ID, LaVonne (Eric) Burkholder of Odessa, TX, Dustin (Shannon) Ready of Eastman, WI, Justin Van Dusseldorp of Pierre, SD, Gabe (Mandi) Van Dusseldorp of Rapid City, SD and Rod Van Dusseldorp of Platte, SD; eleven great grandchildren: Marie, Julia, Oliver and Lincoln Ready, Jubal Ready, Ethan Burkholder, Katelynn, Kade and Kaleb Van Dusseldorp, Tabor and Annabelle Van Dusseldorp; along with many nieces and nephews.
Alfred was preceded in death by his wife, Ardythe (Apr. 11, 2006); his parents, Alfred and Martha; a brother, Melvin; three sisters: Florence, Evelyn and Helen; eight brothers-in-law; seven sisters-in-law; and one grandchild.
