Jennie Bultsma, 93, of Platte, SD passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Platte Care Center Avera. Funeral Services are 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 27, 2017 at the Platte Christian Reformed Church. A Committal Service will follow at Platte City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 12:30 P.M. on Monday.
Jennie (Dykman) Bultsma was born on May 5, 1924 to Fred and Alice (Pheifer) Dykman in rural Platte, SD. She attended Country Grade School and was united in marriage to Chester Bultsma on June 28, 1949 in Platte. She loved life on the farm - gardening and canning, always interested and keeping track of what was going on there.
Jennie was a lifelong member of Platte Christian Reformed Church and enjoyed attending Coffee Break Bible Study. She was an excellent cook and baker; no one ever went away hungry. She liked to pass the time working on Bultsma Family Genealogy and creating beautiful quilts.
Grateful for having shared in Jennie’s life: her five children, 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren: son, Roland (Deb) Bultsma of Platte, SD and their children: Chris Bultsma, Jeremy (Keri) Bultsma and Alicia Bultsma; daughter, Arlene (Harvey) Ymker of Corsica, SD and their children: Randy (Joni) Ymker – Reagen, Carli and Camdyn, Allen (Melanie) Ymker – Paxton, Quinten and Whitney, Kristie (Bradley) Spaans – McKenzie, Trevor and Brooklyn, Tammy (Harlan) Hulshof – Tate and Toby, and Ben Ymker; son, Vic Bultsma of Platte, SD; son, Orville (Teresa) Bultsma of Pella, IA and their children: Tessa and Kaylee Bultsma; daughter, Genevieve (Bernie) Schelling of Armour, SD and their children: Jessica (Travis) Schaeffer – Aden, Raiann and Nyla, Cody (Chelsey) Schelling – Callie and Cole, Jennifer (Wylie) DeLange and Justina Schelling (fiancé, Christopher Van Dyken); two sisters: Hermina Visser of Manhattan, MT and Alvina Brondsema of Edgerton, MN; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Jennie was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Bultsma (Apr. 15, 1987); a great grandson, Peyton Ymker; her parents, Fred and Alice Dykman; a brother, Kelly Dykman; and two brothers-in-law: Dick Visser and Harold Brondsema.
