Joyce Elaine Nedved (Benda)
Joyce Elaine Nedved, 74, of Kimball, SD passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Aurora-Brule Nursing Home in White Lake, SD. Funeral Mass is 10:30 A.M. Friday, February 2, 2018 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Kimball. A Committal Service will follow at Riverview Cemetery, Chamberlain, SD. Visitation with family present will be held at the church from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Thursday, February 1, 2018 with a 7:00 P.M. Wake and Rosary Service.

Joyce Elaine (Benda) Nedved was born on January 29, 1943, in Plankinton, South Dakota to Harry and Jane (Briggs) Benda. She was a graduate of Kimball High School and went on to attend Dakota Wesleyan University where she obtained her teaching certificate. She took her first teaching position in the Kimball School System at a one room Country School House. She then met Chester Nedved, they were married on December 29, 1962, and they started their life together with Chet’s three children on the farm south of Kimball. They expanded the family with three more children and lived on the farm until 1978.

Joyce moved into Kimball after the death of her husband and returned to college, commuting to obtain her teaching degree. She again obtained a teaching position with the Kimball School District, teaching at the Grass Ranch Colony and then in the elementary grades in Kimball. She later taught at Crow Creek where she completed her career as an educator. She continued to work as a waitress, hardware store clerk, and finally as an in-home care provider assisting individuals with personal and home care items.

In February of 2016 her own health condition required that she receive assistance and she entered the Aurora-Brule Nursing Home where she resided until her death.

Grateful for having shared in Joyce’s life: step-daughter, Peggy Anderson of Waconia, MN, step-son, Charles Nedved and wife, Joyce of Kimball, SD, step-son, Lonnie Nedved and wife, Stephanie of Mitchell, SD, son, Craig Nedved and wife, Karen of Rapid City, SD, son, Curt Nedved and wife, Joyce of Longview, WA and daughter, Patti Nedved of White Lake, SD; two brothers: Dennis Benda of Colorado and Leslie Benda of Sioux Falls, SD; three grandchildren: Connor Nedved, Kade Nedved and Abbi Nedved; nine step-grandchildren; and 18 step-great grandchildren.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Jane Benda; and her husband, Chester J. Nedved (Dec. 15, 1978).

The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to all the friends and caregivers that entered into Joyce’s life to make it a happier and more comfortable place. A special thanks to Tom Konechne for sharing his life with Joyce and to the Aurora-Brule Nursing Home staff and AseraCare Hospice staff for their loving care and comfort.

In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that a donation of your choice be made to: St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, PO Box 137, Kimball, SD 57355 or to the Aurora-Brule Nursing Home, 408 S. Johnston St., White Lake, SD 57383 in her name.
